LuLu Beans barista Hanneh Tebben makes an elegant dip into Green Lake while fellow barista Kim Makela attempts to spare her icy fate. Despite the 8-degree weather, 210 locals and visitors lined up to jump into Green Lake’s frozen waters last weekend in the 15th Annual Polar Plunge, sponsored by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and Willmar Police Department. In total, the event raised $44,551 for Special Olympics MN.
The Little Crow Country Club hosted an 18-hole golf scramble Monday, July 29 as a fundraiser for Jaden Hanson, an NL-S graduate who was recently diagnosed with a rare adrenal gland cancer. A total of 135 golfers turned out for the event, coming in from as far as Fargo and the Twin Cities. The family sold t-shirts that read “Hanson Strong” and local businesses and individuals donated prizes to the golfers. In all the fundraiser raised around $10,000 for Hanson’s medical treatment. “It far exceeded what I thought it was going to be,” event organizer and family friend Bob Kulseth said.
